There are 3 different styles in this game: Mercenary: To get this style, you have to be as destructive as possible. In other words, you must also destroy neutral units / structures. In my case, I tend to destroy everything in sight. Soldier: Default style. The key to maintaining this style is to stick with the mission objectives. You may destroy extra targets, but do remember to hold back. Knight: To obtain this one, spare all neutral structures, and allow neutralized enemy planes to escape. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MAP INDICATORS [01b] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Marker colors displayed on your radar are as follows: Red : Targets (Indicated as TGT on the field) Must be destroyed in order to accomplish mission. Green: Enemy units. Destruction of these units are often not required, but may also be destroyed to earn extra points. Note that "Named" planes are also displayed on the radar with this color. Yellow: Neutral Targets. These ones are always harmless. May be destroyed for points, and if you're aiming to earn the Mercenary Ace Style. Neutralized enemy planes are also displayed in this color. White: Your Wingman. White Dotted Line: Fly pass this line to return to base. Only available in certain missions. ============================================================================ II. You have to intercept and destroy all | Date: 1995/04/02 | Belkan bombers, that are out to blow up your | Time: 13:00 | base. | Area: Valais Air Base | +========================+ The bomber fleet consists of 6 B-52s, and 4 BM 335s. With several F-5s, and F-4s serving as escorts. Round Hammer ------------ Essentially the same as Gelnikos. Only this time you'll be required to take out Belka's naval fleet stationed at the canal, rather than an air squadron. The naval units here aren't as tough as they were in AC5. Frigates must only be hit by a missile once for it to sink, 2 missiles for destroyers, 3 for cruisers, and 4 for aegis. Also the cruisers and aegis can be neutralized by destroying their AA Guns and SAMs. Costner ------- Your objective here is to provide cover for Osea's 3rd Fleet, including the Kestrel, until they pass safely through the canal. Simply destroy all the planes that attempt to get close to the fleet. Your | Operation Varsity | job this time is to take out all anti-air weapons | | stationed at the troops' drop point. It's up to you whether or not to destroy the tents around the area. Once you've liberated all 5 sectors, the Gelb Squadron -- comprised of 2 Su-37s will appear. Shoot them down to accomplish the mission. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 07: BASTION [02g] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +======================+ Another boring mission. Simply destroy targets | Operation Hellbound | until you get to 16,000 points. You can go back | | to base and resupply via the return line, located | Date: 1995/05/17 | south of the map. You also have 30 minutes to | Time: 16:20 | get this mission done. I strongly suggest arming | Area: Mt. You must pick which team | Operation Dynamo | you want to join in: | | | Date: 1995/05/19 | 08 A: Alpha Team | Time: 15:30 | 08 B: Beta Team | Area: Schayne Plains | 08 C: Theta Team +=======================+ Alpha Team & Beta Team ----------------------- Alpha Team is in charge of neutralizing the enemy's defense line. The target area is much smaller than that of Beta Team's, whose mission is to neutralize enemy facilities in the area. Theta Team ----------- Your objective here is to gain air superiority by shooting down all Belkan fighters. There are plenty of planes to be shot down, so make sure you have bring a plane with plenty of missiles as well. Regardless of which mission you partcipate in, you have to avoid Excalibur's attacks and exit combat airspace by heading south past the return line. Simply steer your plane left or right, facing away from the laser. And continue flying diagonally towards your destination. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 09: SWORD OF ANNIHILATION [02i] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +======================+ Your mission this time is to eliminate Excalibur | Operation Judgement | -- a weapon that is sort of a cross between the | | Arkbird from AC5, and Stonehenge from AC4. Any- | Date: 1995/05/23 | way, before you can target Excalibur, you must | Time: 14:00 | first destroy the 4 jamming devices placed | Area: Tauberg | around the area. Missiles won't work until you +======================+ neutralize all the jammers, so you'll have to stick with machine guns until then. Take note that each device is surrounded by AA Guns, so be careful. The one other thing that complicates matters here is the fact that Excalibur itself won't be dormant either. The said weapon will fire lasers all througout the mission, with short cooling periods after each shot. The laser's trajectory is displayed as a red beam on the radar. Just stay out of that beam, and you're fine. Once the jammers are taken out, aim for the Power Generators, or you can go for Excalibur. It takes about 8-10 missile hits to take out the cannon. After that, target the base of the weapon to destroy it. (Takes about 10 missile hits.) You may also destroy the RTLS around the area for extra points. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 10: MAYHEM [02j] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +=======================+ This is a purely air-to-air mission, which also | Operation Battle Axe | takes quite a while. So be sure to bring a plane | | with decent amount of missiles. Destroy as many | Date: 1995/05/20 | enemy fighters as you can, or until you get at | Time: 12:00 | least 6000 to 8000 points. After which the | Area: B7R | mission gets updated, and a squadron of Belkan +=======================+ aces arrives. As for the issue of which squadron you'll be fighting, depends on your ace style: Mercenary -- Schwarze Squadron (MiG-31) Soldier -- Schnee Squadron (F-14D x4, EA-6B x1) Knight -- Silber Squadron (F-4E x1, F-16C x4) Mercenaries always face the toughest opponents. Thus, making Schwarze the most unforgiving squad. You'll be rewarded by getting your opponent's plane, along with the paint scheme when you win. Just in case you didn't notice, Heartbreak One (Captain Bartlett) is among the allied units in this mission. He's piloting an F-14D. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 11: THE INFERNO [02k] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +=====================+ Your assignment this time is to provide air | Operation Cannibal | support for allied units that will carry out | | bombing of the enemy ground facilities. As usual | Date: 1995/06/01 | neutralize all anti-air units. Then take out the | Time: 23:10 | fighters that appear a bit later on in the | Area: Hoffnung | mission. +=====================+ Once you've taken out all designated air and ground targets, a squadron of stealth fighters comprised of several F-35s, a couple of B-2s, and an EA- 18 jammer craft. Dispose of the EA-18G as soon as you can, to clear your radar. The mission ends once all stealth aircrafts have been shot down. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 12: THE STAGE OF APOCALYPSE [02l] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +===================+ Pixy will be lagging behind at the beginning of this | Operation Ravage | mission, but he does catch up later. Your job is to | | take out all the bombers that are said to be | Date: 1995/06/06 | carrying nuclear weapons. These bombers have rather | Time: 14:50 | pesky escorts, so shoot those down first if you | Area: Waldreich | like. +===================+ But I really suggest that you focus more on the bombers. So that you can shoot all of them down before they withdraw. Though that's just for points, there's no major consequence if the bombers get away. Once the jamming begins, keep steering your plane to avoid the incoming missile. You'll also notice that all remaining enemy aircrafts are now yellow. It's up to you whether to shoot them down or not. Several SU-27s will appear after a while. If you have any XMAAs or XLAAs, do use them to dispose of the new targets quickly. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 13: LYING IN DECEIT [02m] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +======================+ More enemy facilities to be bombed. So in this | Operation Stone Age | mission, I strongly recommend bringing along | | FAE Bombs, or UGBLs since most of the facilities | Date: 1995/06/13 | are cramped together. The mission will end once | Time: 16:00 | you score 20,000 points. You can always head | Area: Mt. Schirm | south past the return line to resupply, if you +======================+ need to. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 14: THE FINAL OVERTURE [02n] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +===================+ This will be the final set of split missions. The | Operation Broom | main objective of all 3 is to eliminate all remnant | | Belkan forces positioned at the coastline. | Date: 1995/06/20 | | Time: 16:20 | 14 A: Mars Strike Team | Area: Anfang | 14 B: Mercury Strike Team +===================+ 14 C: Jupiter Strike Team Mars Strike Team ----------------- You must carry out an air strike against the remaining ground and naval units. There are civilian houses mixed in the target units, so pick them out carefully or you can just drop a bomb and blow everything up. The naval units are located at the west side of the map. Mercury Strike Team ------------------- There are plenty of JAS-39s to be shot down here. Most of them are taking off from inside the tunnel. Though the planes are much easier to destroy while they're still on the ground. Also, do watch out for the anti-air units. Jupiter Strike Team ------------------- Another air superiority mission. Your radar will be jammed at the beginning. Take out 6 EA-6B jammers to clear it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 15: THE TALON OF RUIN [02o] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +=====================+ Another very familiar mission. Remember "White | Operation Valkyrie | Bird Part II" from AC5? Your objective in this | | mission is pretty much exactly the same -- | Date: 1995/12/25 | destroy XB-0 before it exits combat airspace. | Time: 15:10 | +=====================+ But in order to be able to do that, you must first shoot down the Espada Squadron. Which consists of only 2 planes -- a J35J (Espada 1) and Rafale M (Espada 2). These 2 are pretty good when it comes to pulling off evasive maneuvers, so make sure you only fire missiles when you get a lock at very close range. (about 210 feet or less). With Espada out of the way, it's time to go after the XB-0. Or you can take out the remaining Su-37s if you like. Just like the Arkbird, the XB-0 is well armed. Destroy all the Guns -- some are positioned at the back of the craft, and others on top of it. These only take 1 missile to destroy. After that, decommission the Engines, Guns, and ABMs. If you have XLAAs, use those to make quick work of this part. The ABMs are located on top of the ship. Once that's done, you have one final target -- the XB-0's cockpit. This one can be pretty difficult to hit, since its located at the front. Now fly closely over the XB-0, and fire 2 missiles when you get the range to a little less than 100 feet. Alternatively, you can also drop an FAE Bomb near the cockpit to destroy it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 16: THE DEMON OF THE ROUND TABLE [02p] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +========================+ You must pass through the Round Table to get | Operation Thunderbolt | to Avalon. But of course, it won't be that | | easy. Just fly towards the direction indicated | Date: 1995/12/31 | by the arrow on the map, until a fighter | Time: 11:00 | squadron appears. You'll be engaging a | Area: B7R | different squad depending on your ace style. +========================+ Mercenary -- Sorcerer Squadron (F-15/S MTD x8) Soldier -- Gault Squadron (Su-47 x8) Knight -- Wizard Squadron (F-16XL x4, YF-23A x4) Sorcerer Squadron ----------------- These guys are the most relentless of the bunch. They come at you in pairs with a bit of distance from the next. So I suggest you take out each pair before all of them get a chance to converge. Otherwise it'll be quite difficult to shoot them down, mainly because of the non-stop missile alerts. Gault Squadron -------------- Much more forgiving than Sorcerer. They come as a group, so if you have MPBMs (SP New Game, or Free Mission), just fire one and half of the entire group will receive damage. They also seem to fly together a lot, so if you can get behind them, it will be pretty easy to pick them off one by one from close range. Wizard Squadron --------------- The F-16XLs will appear first, followed by the YF-23As a while later. Missile alerts don't happen often, so taking this group out shouldn't be all that difficult. The YF-23A is a stealth air craft, so it'll be a bit harder to track down. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 17: THE VALLEY OF KINGS [02q] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +========================+ You must now head for Avalon and prevent the | Operation Point Blank | V2 launch. Don't go flying over the mountain | | range too long or you'll get shot down. Once there, destroy the Gun Towers until the barriers covering the tunnel entrance open. (It'll open once the count down begins.) There are 2 main openings on top of the dam, one at the north end and the other one to the south. There are 3 V2 control devices inside the tunnel, which only appear when all the other TGTs are destroyed. So simply fly over them at low speed, and drop an FAE Bomb to take everything out. The passages inside the tunnel are positioned either at the leftmost or rightmost corners. These passages are very easy to miss, so keep your eyes peeled, or else you'll find yourself flying straight into a wall. Exit the tunnel through the opening at the top, once you get to the end. Take out the anti-air weapons waiting for you outside, then fly back into the tunnel to destroy the 3 V2 control devices. The mission completes once you get back out. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= MISSION 18: ZERO [02r] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= +====================+ Since PJ was shot down in the previous mission, | Date: 1995/12/31 | this will be a one-on-one showdown between you and | Time: 15:10 | your "buddy". This will be a 3-round battle, and it | Area: Avalon Dam | takes 6 missile hits to take him down each time. +====================+ (Though how his plane managed to withstand so many hits is beyond me.) The first encounter should be easy, since Pixy is much less aggressive, as well as predicatable. You can get 2 hits in almost immediately after he appears. In short the best way to get this done is through head on attacks. Fly past him, and hit the after-burners to get a bit of distance between both of you. Then turn around so that you're facing each other directly. Speed up, and slow down once you get a lock, then fire 2 missiles. He should slam right into them. Do this about 3 times, and you should be able to take him out in 40 seconds. (Assuming all your shots connect.) About his TLS, it barely scratches your plane. But if you receive concentrated hits from it, then its a different story. The second encounter will be more difficult than the last. Pixy is really good at evading, so again only fire missiles when you get locks from close range. (I recommend less than 200 feet) At the same time, make sure you have good angles before shooting. Also, he will be using burst missiles this round. Just don't fly too close to the explosion and you're fine. Take note that you only have 10 minutes to defeat him twice. So hopefully you didn't spend too much time on the first battle. For the 3rd and final encounter, missiles fired from any angle other than head on will be deflected. And take note that machine gun fire won't work either. You only have 6 minutes to get this battle done. If the V2 completes its reentry, you lose. So fly past him with the after-burners on, to get some distance between you two. (Make sure he's tailing you as you do this.) Then turn around so that you're facing him directly. Fire missiles when you get a lock at about 700+ feet, then quickly deflect to avoid the missiles coming your way. Rinse and repeat until he gets shot down. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SP MISSION: THE GAUNTLET [02s] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This mission is unlocked after you've shot down all the ace squadrons in the game: Rot, Grun, Indigo, Gelb, Schwarze, Schnee, Silber, Espada, Sorcerer, Gault & Wizard. You'll have to face and shoot down 5 ace squadrons, (chosen at random, except for Gelb and Espada) within 30 minutes. There's a return line located south of the combat airspace, so you can always go back through there and resupply if you need to. Also, you get to fight F/A-22A Mobius 1-on-1, instead of the usual squadron in the final round.
